GAO's software packages for fax relay and fax over IP (FoIP) are alternatives that reduce costs over traditional faxing. Fax relay software allows OEMs to create devices that utilize digital wireline or wireless links to carry fax traffic. Fax over IP (FoIP) software provides relay functionality for sending faxes over the public Internet, managed networks, intranets, or virtual private networks (VPNs).

The fax data pump provides interfaces to the PCM, does the signaling modulation and demodulation and also provides the high speed modem pump.
