Toronto, Canada: GAO Research & Consulting Ltd. has released multi-channel modem software for the Texas Instruments TMS320C54x DSP (GAO Multi-Channel Package), which can be used to create devices with multiple modem channels for Internet service providers, PBXs, Voice over IP, and central office switching equipment. The package includes software for V.34 and all fallbacks which are necessary for communications with modems that do not support V.34 technology. GAO’s V.90 software is being ported to TMS320C54x and will be added to the package in the near future. The GAO Multi-Channel Package has achieved excellent test results using the TSB37A model and TSB38 test suite. The GAO Multi-Channel Package can be licensed starting from $299,000 plus royalties. The V.90 upgrade will be available for an additional fee.
The GAO Multi-Channel V.34 C54x implementation consists of a set of functions that perform modulation /demodulation, data pump control, and status reporting for each channel. The GAO V.34 modem software included in the GAO Multi-Channel Package is capable of data signaling rates of 2.4 Kbps to 33.6 Kbps. The V.34 modem software separates channels through echo cancellation techniques and uses quadrature amplitude modulation. The automatic adjustment of transmission power levels enables the transmitted signal to best fit the line conditions and the use of adaptive equalization results in reliable signal reception. Precoding and sophisticated Trellis codes increase the transmission reliability over noisy lines.
